A Family Tradition

From Doc's table
to your plate.

Compass Grill is the love letter founder Paul Musco wrote to his father Doc — and to every guest who walks through our door. It's where heritage Italian recipes meet North Carolina's coastal bounty, served with the kind of welcome that turns first-time visitors into lifelong regulars.

Our Story

Built on heart, family, and Cedar Point.

In a small coastal town where everybody waves when they pass and mornings start with the smell of salt air drifting through the marshes, a dream began to take shape between two families who believed in one simple thing — good food brings people together.

When Paul Musco joined forces with the McCausley family, it was never just about opening another restaurant. It was about building a place that felt like home for the people of Cedar Point.

They wanted a restaurant where hardworking locals, fishermen coming off the water, families after church, and travelers passing through could all sit down to a meal made with care — the kind of cooking that reminds you of Sunday mornings growing up.

Together, they poured their hearts into creating Compass Grill. Long mornings started before sunrise with coffee brewing and biscuits going into the oven. Breakfast became more than a meal — it became a tradition. Plates piled high with eggs, pancakes, grits, home fries, and southern favorites quickly made Compass Grill a place where regulars felt like family.

As the restaurant grew, so did the vision. Lunch brought burgers stacked high, seafood fresh from the coast, sandwiches made with pride, and daily specials that kept people coming back. Then came dinner service — warm plates, southern comfort recipes, prime rib nights, seafood pasta, and meals meant to slow life down for just a little while.

What made Compass Grill special was never just the food. It was the people behind it.

Paul Musco and the McCausley family built something rooted in hard work, loyalty, and community. Through busy weekends, packed dining rooms, early mornings, and long nights, they stayed committed to serving Cedar Point with the finest home-cooked breakfast, lunch, and dinner the town has to offer.

Compass Grill became more than a restaurant. It became a gathering place — where birthdays are celebrated, coffee cups are refilled before you ask, and customers are greeted by name when they walk through the door.

In a fast-moving world, Compass Grill stands as a reminder that the best meals are still made with heart, family, and a love for the community they serve.

The Musco family calamari recipe

Recipes that traveled

The Compass Calamari you'll find on our menu isn't a trend — it's a family recipe handed down through generations of Muscos. Lightly breaded, perfectly fried, and served the way Doc taught Paul to make it.

Coastal at heart

Cedar Point sits at the gateway to the Crystal Coast, and our menu reflects that. Local seafood, hand-patted burgers, breakfast served all day, and house-made hollandaise on benedicts that have earned a quiet kind of fame.

Hospitality, plated

Our guests describe the room as "home-like." We take that as the highest compliment. Friendly staff, generous portions, fair prices, and a self-serve drink station that says: stay as long as you'd like.

Come taste the coast.
